100 years of Kiwanis Club of Brantford
The Thursday 07-March-2019 meeting of the Kiwanis Club of Brantford was 100th Anniversary
Celebration of Charter signing March 08, 1919.
It was a fantastic kickoff to celebrating our 100th year.
President Elect Nelson McClinchey drew our attention to the club's Charter dated March 8,
1919, and read it’s proclamation for all to hear.
Lieutenant Governor Stan Hutchinson from the Black Walnut Division (5) of the Eastern Canada
& Caribbean District extended congratulations to the club on the 100th Anniversary of the
Charter.
- We were presented with an overview of the club's history by Bob Saunders, followed with a series of Member presenting facts, memories, and connections:
- Joanne Murray, reminding us of the many years we ran the Music Festival
- Pam Honeyman, a second generation Kiwanian, showing a trophy her father had won
- Sandra Pauwels, another second generation Kiwanian and a former Camp Leader
- Judy Jones, a third generation Kiwanian and Camp Leader
- Guest Eddy Vance, grandson of a former 37 year member and President of the club, displaying his grandfather's name badge
- Roxanne Bond, a camper at Camp Chiefswood
- LG Stan stating that our club sponsorship of the Paris-Brant club
- Bob Ritchie, first Chair of the Children's Safety Village
- Dave Lewis, updating us on Aktion Club Special Olympics
- Bob Peever, oldest member in age and membership
- Ben Berry, our youngest member
- All Kiwanians ended their comment with "And I'm a proud Kiwanian."
2. Moving on to the second part of the program, Jim Steele gave a brief history of Eastern
Canada and the Caribbean District
- Chris Stewart, President of the Aktion Club, presented a cheque for $500 to Leo Vos, President of the Safety Village.
- Bob Johnson described the purpose of the Mel Osborne Community Leader Awards
- Doug DeLaronde and Joel Balberman presented the awards to Melanie Kraemer and Neil Stamer for their tireless support of Kiwanis Field
- Jim Steele presented the award to Dr. John Huigenbos for his many volunteer contributions to the community.
3. Time-Capsule- Box was presented with Judy Lillico, Bob Peever, and Ben Berry placing
the club roster, the meeting program, today’s newspaper, set of 2019 coins, and a letter
to the 2044 club when the box is to be opened on the 125th anniversary. The secure
closing of the Time Box was superbly handled by Bob Wade and Bob MacLean.
4. To bring a sweet end to this great event, Judy Jones and Nelson McClinchey cut the Anniversary cake and made sure all had a piece before they left.
Congratulations and sincere thanks to the Anniversary Committee for arranging such a
memorable meeting.
